The Vision of the owner of this property was to create a safe haven
and retreat for himself and his family in a modern day Adirondack
Great Camp. He chose this lake for its unique third dimensional
view of the Islands in the lake between his shoreline with the
mountains in the background. His interest in wooden boats was an
added advantage in choosing this lake because its sailboats, "The
Idem", a class of boat only sailed on this lake, along with a wide
variety of antique wooden sailboats and powerboats, which add to the
uniqueness of this lake. The following are the many amenities that
maximize the Adirondack experience for family and guests.
Upper St. Regis
Lake is a mountain lake and is a chain of three lakes. It is also
the headwater for the St. Regis River that flows from this lake to
the St. Lawrence Seaway and the ocean. This lake has portages to
permit canoeing from this property to several miles of trails to
Saranac Lake and the St. Regis River. It is 30 minutes to Village
of Saranac Lake and 45 minutes to Lake Placid home of the 1932 and
1980 Olympics and Whiteface Mountain, a world-renowned ski resort
with the largest vertical drop in the Northeast.
Adirondack Regional
Airport is 15 minutes away and can accommodate commercial and
corporate jet aircraft.
This property is
located in Upstate New York's Adirondack Park which has helped to
controlled the growth and development, and maintain the area in its
original, pristine condition.
This self-contained
retreat is made up of 14+ acres with 1000 +/- feet of lake front on
the exclusive Upper St. Regis Lake of the Adirondacks. The camp’s
five main buildings and other outbuildings are described below.
This camp was
featured by House and Garden TV in their Vacation Living Series, as
well as in a 1990 edition of Architectural Digest and has been the
feature of many books on gardens and camps of the Adirondacks,
namely Gardens of the Adirondacks by Janet Loughrey.
